Normally when it comes to troubleshooting of networks we use PING and Traceroute. while surfing web, I came across this tool WinMTR. WinMTR is a free MS Windows visual application that combines the functionality of the traceroute and ping in a single network diagnostic tool.

It uses more data sample at every hop to measure the server latency and performance change over time.

It collects continuous data until we stop it.

Steps:

Run WinMTR on windows – GUI

double click on WinMTR – you will get a pop-up as below

Sample data to key-in

1. Host — e.g www.yahoo.com

2. click “options” TAB and leave values for interval and ping size as default and tune the values of Interval, (if required)

Sample output

double click on any one the ip and see the latency (you can be verify the latency for every ip listed)

Task for the readers

Try to ping 1. your home internet ip

                    2. www.alipay.com  (as this url is hosted in china the latency is high here).
